Article: The Adverse Effects of Food Additives on Health: A Review of the Literature with Special Emphasis on Childhood Hyperactivity

\”today about 75% of the Western diet is made up
of various processed foods, each person is now
consuming an average 8-10 lbs of food additives
per year\” (p.225)

So I read this article on the plane ride to Canada and I must say its a big one, as in extremely interesting!  I highly, highly recommend reading this and printing it off as a reference to the health effects of food/cosmetic additives, while understanding that this article only points out about a dozen additives from the thousands that exist in today\’s society.  These additives have contributed to an increased prevalence of hyperactivity in children, which is becoming very problematic.  I think I always go back to nature vs nurture for this one because, as we see in the article, food additives play a big role during child behavioral development, but also in relation to nurture, are we as a society just becoming lazy and less patient with children in general?  That\’s my opinion, as I used to be a nanny and I have seen a lot of disturbing parental behaviors when it comes to dealing with hyperactive children.  Any-ways, the article goes through a list of the top nasties in relation to additives, and I must say it\’s pretty disturbing to know we ingest a huge amount of these on a daily basis without even realizing it.  This is why I support Jamie Oliver\’s Food Revolution, as well as, share articles on this website, because without information sharing most of us are blind to what is really going on with our food and health.  Hope you enjoy this article as much as I did!  Thanks, and be aware and eat with care 🙂
